I'd still like to leave this post open to discussion on any and all useful ways to remote desktop with Windows XP, including other software alternatives and possible complications and workarounds, and in particular what's the latest versions that still run on XP.

Still sucks that apparently there's no hope for TeamViewer on XP anymore, especially since VNC is fucking slow, but at least there are still options, if not a headache to get set up sometimes. The final settings that I needed to change to get past this issue was in UltraVNC server settings, under the Connections tab, I had to enable 'Display Query Window', which allows me to set the default action to 'Accept' underneath that. I kept running into rejected connection issues despite disabling basically all firewalls and security settings between the two. Figuring out settings to make a happy connection between the two vastly different systems proved way more difficult than I had initially expected, especially since I know VNC can run on a potato PSP1000. There are people unable to connect to their +/- $100,000 dedicated manufacturing systems due to this, and their controller systems don't lend themselves to just updating Windows as a solution.Īre there any ways to get TeamViewer working on XP today? Or other alternative remote control software that's XP compatible?Įdit Since I'm not seeing any hope for TeamViewer, I've proceeded on to UltraVNC for my Windows XP system (server side), and am using Remmina + VNC plugin on Linux Mint (viewer side). Versions 12, 13, and 14 all refuse to connect now, saying the XP side is outdated and needs to be updated. They have only dropped support for free users. Important Edit: I've been informed that TeamViewer 14.2 does still work on Windows XP, only if you have a paid license though.
